Dettagli dell’esemplare
Su questo esemplare
Moroccan aragonite sputnik at 4.2 cm and 36 g; a miniature with textbook habit.
Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.
Morocco's Mibladen and Touissit districts are the classic source of vanadinite, cerussite and baryte, mined from lead deposits in the High Atlas.
The piece is miniature in size, 4.2 × 3.4 × 3 cm (1.65 × 1.34 × 1.18 in) and 36 g (1.3 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
