A distanza di braccio sembra che qualcuno abbia steso del metallo filato sulla roccia. Si avvicini e la foschia si risolve in migliaia di aghi di bismutinite: argentei, sottili come capelli, alcuni più lunghi di un centimetro, distesi e intrecciati su una matrice grigio-nera. Piccoli cristalli di quarzo incolori spuntano attraverso il feltro in nodi vetrosi, e croste carbonatiche chiare affiorano lungo il bordo inferiore, dove la copertura di aghi si dirada.
La bismutinite è solfuro di bismuto, Bi2S3, rombica, e con 2 Mohs è più tenera di un'unghia. In questo abito aciculare quella tenerezza è tutto ciò che conta per un collezionista: gli aghi si piegano o si tranciano sotto un pennello, un polpastrello o un imballaggio distratto, e non ricrescono. La esponga sotto una campana o in una vetrina chiusa, la sposti afferrando la matrice e non la spolveri mai.
Il pezzo misura 9,1 × 4,3 × 6,4 cm e pesa 221 g, a forma di cuneo e stabile sulla sua ampia base. Queste fotografie sono state scattate proprio all'esemplare qui proposto.
