Questa è fluorite che ha dimenticato come si fa a essere un cubo. L'intera faccia di quindici centimetri è una successione di cupole grasse e sovrapposte, ciascuna rivestita da una brina opaca color fumo di legna, con l'ambra e l'oro vecchio che traspaiono da sotto ovunque quella crosta si assottigli. La pirite vi è sparsa in minuscole punte acute: oro argenteo sui lobi di sinistra, ossidata in arancio ruggine lungo il lato destro.
La fluorite botrioidale si forma quando il CaF2 precipita in strati rapidi su una superficie già curva, invece di costruirsi verso l'esterno a partire da un unico germe. Il risultato è mammellonare anziché cristallino, più vicino per stile di crescita a un calcedonio che ai cubi netti per cui la specie è nota. Poiché quella trama è tutto il senso del pezzo, resista alla pulizia a umido: la fluorite ha durezza 4 Mohs e lo sfregamento lucida per sempre una crosta opaca.
Con 15,2 × 10,2 × 7,6 cm e 1486 g, poco meno di 1,5 kg, riempie il palmo e chiede spazio su una mensola, non in un cassetto. Non è dotato di base; il fondo piatto lo tiene fermo. Il pezzo qui fotografato è quello che viene spedito.
