Petalo su petalo, la calcite bianco latte si ripiega su questo piccolo gruppo: lame tanto sottili da illuminarsi dove la luce ne attraversa i bordi, disposte in ventagli sovrapposti che davvero si leggono come una corolla. In mezzo affiorano piccoli cristalli grigi traslucidi e chiazze di roccia grigio scuro, che danno al bianco qualcosa contro cui spingere.
La calcite lamellare di questo tipo si forma in vene a bassa temperatura, dove la crescita piatta e tabulare prevale sui romboedri massicci che quasi tutti immaginano sentendo il nome della specie. La calcite (CaCO3) ha durezza 3 Mohs e sfaldatura perfetta in tre direzioni, perciò lame così sottili si scheggiano con facilità: sollevi l'esemplare dalla base, mai per un petalo, e lo conservi dove nulla di più duro possa spostarsi contro di esso.
Piccolo e facile da sistemare su una mensola, 4,6 × 2,5 × 3,0 cm per 48 g. Nessun supporto è incluso, e il gruppo è stato fotografato esattamente com'è: queste immagini mostrano questo esemplare e non uno analogo.
