Un’ampia faccia triangolare occupa tutto il fronte di questa fluorite del Guizhou, che è un ottaedro singolo e non un gruppo di cubi. I margini sono smerigliati di bianco e all’occhio appaiono lievemente zuccherini; al loro interno un triangolo malva scuro siede centrato sulla faccia, con i lati paralleli a quelli esterni, così che il cristallo sembra portare in sé una propria immagine rimpicciolita. Un ripiano pallido e smerigliato prosegue verso destra.
Quali facce scelga una fluorite dipende in larga misura dalla velocità di crescita: le facce del cubo dominano quando la crescita è rapida, quelle dell’ottaedro quando è lenta e regolare, e il contorno triangolare che vede qui è la risposta lenta. Il colore segue lo stesso ritmo, intensificandosi o sbiadendo al mutare del fluido: ecco come un nucleo violetto finisce avvolto in una corteccia incolore. La fluorite è 4 nella scala di Mohs e ha sfaldatura ottaedrica perfetta: quegli spigoli netti si ammaccano se urtati.
