Decine di piccole sfere color lavanda affollano la sommità di questo calcedonio di Sulawesi, serrate al centro e via via più rade in cupole isolate verso i bordi, tutte appoggiate su una base grigio-violacea più scura. Lungo il lato inferiore destro un gruppo vira al verde mare, e croste di matrice crema pallido restano attaccate a entrambe le estremità, là dove il pezzo si è staccato dalla roccia ospite. La superficie ha il morbido riflesso ceroso tipico del materiale, più che una lucentezza vitrea.
Il calcedonio è silice, SiO2, costruita da fibre troppo fini per essere viste; l'abito botrioidale si forma quando un fluido ricco di silice riveste una cavità nella roccia vulcanica e cresce verso l'esterno da innumerevoli punti di innesco, ciascuno dei quali si arrotonda nel proprio emisfero. Il nome commerciale segue l'aspetto, non la chimica. Significa anche che è un esemplare che perdona parecchio: con durezza da 6,5 a 7 Mohs si maneggia molto meglio dei teneri carbonati che condividono la sua mensola.
Misura 7,4 × 3,3 × 5,3 cm e pesa 120 g, di una taglia fatta per stare nel palmo come nelle fotografie. Nessun supporto è incluso; il pezzo si regge sul bordo della propria matrice. Queste immagini sono state scattate proprio a questo grappolo.
