Una cupola bianca, una corona di calcite ambrata: ecco il pezzo in una riga. I cristalli di calcite sono tabulari, con bordi a lente, del colore del tè leggero, parecchi abbastanza limpidi da mostrare al loro interno il fantasma di una striscia di crescita; fra di essi la matrice corre bruno scuro e terrosa. Tutta la metà inferiore è una drusa serrata di quarzo finissimo, e soltanto lungo la base compare un sottile bordo verde della fluorite.
Quella sovrapposizione è il vero interesse dell'esemplare. La fluorite verde è arrivata per prima ed è ormai quasi del tutto sepolta; un impulso siliceo l'ha poi avvolta in quarzo microcristallino; la calcite è cresciuta per ultima, sopra ogni cosa. Leggere una sequenza in tre atti direttamente da un thumbnail di 3,6 cm è esattamente ciò per cui è fatta una lente da geologo. Lo maneggi come esige il componente più tenero: la calcite ha durezza 3 Mohs e si corrode al contatto con qualunque sostanza acida, aceto e detergenti domestici compresi.
