Prima di tutto una porta: due battenti ad arco di pietra, scanalati a imitare le doghe e muniti di maniglie ad anello, ricavati direttamente da un blocco di calcite cinese. Sopra, i corsi di mattoni corrono tra il miele e il crema, con diversi blocchi virati al lilla, e poi l'intaglio semplicemente si ferma: il terzo superiore è lasciato come il minerale lo ha cresciuto, una cresta grezza di cristalli azzurro pallido che fa le veci di un tetto.
Quel contrasto è tutta l'idea del pezzo. La calcite (CaCO3) accetta un taglio netto sotto l'utensile perché è tenera, 3 Mohs, e si sfalda in tre direzioni: ragione per cui l'intagliatore si è fermato in tempo e ha lasciato che fosse la faccia cristallizzata a concludere il lavoro. Le zone bianco-gialle e viola che affiorano nella muratura sono la bandatura originale del blocco, tagliata di traverso anziché applicata.
È un oggetto di peso: 20,3 cm di larghezza, 14,7 cm di altezza, 5,6 cm di profondità e 3330 g – 3,33 kg – quindi chiede una mensola più che il cassetto di una vetrinetta. Le fotografie mostrano l'oggetto che le arriverà.
