Una metà di questo pezzo è un volto; l'altra metà è la cavità da cui è uscito. Il fronte è stato scolpito a teschio, con orbite profonde, apertura nasale scavata e una fila di denti squadrati appena abbozzata, in quarzo grigio e zuccherino, venato e chiazzato di ocra. Dietro lo zigomo il lapidario si è fermato e la parete della geode sopravvive com'era cresciuta: protuberanze cristalline color crema e tabacco con fra loro punte di quarzo incolore, e quella zona ruvida si legge come una capigliatura rasata.
Lavorare una geode in questo modo è un'impresa a colpo unico: l'incisore deve intuire dove corra la parete del vacuolo prima di dare il primo colpo, poi portare avanti il volto quanto basta perché regga un'espressione senza sfondare nel vuoto. Il quarzo, a durezza 7 Mohs, tiene bene il dettaglio, ma la zona drusata è la metà vulnerabile: le punte dei cristalli si spezzano sotto un'unghia, perciò maneggi il teschio dal fronte compatto.
