Metà di questo blocco è stata intagliata e metà lasciata esattamente come è uscita dalla terra. Il fronte è un elefante di quarzo bianco latte, con la proboscide arrotolata sotto, l'orecchio ripiegato in bassorilievo e una sola piccola pietra scura incastonata come occhio; dietro la spalla la scultura semplicemente si ferma e cede il passo a un campo ruvido di facce cristalline di quarzo, macchiate di ruggine e d'ambra chiara.
Il contrasto funziona perché il materiale non cambia: 7 di durezza Mohs sia nel fronte massivo bianco neve sia nel retro cristallizzato e limpido, un solo minerale trattato in due modi. L'arancio su quelle facce cristalline è ossido di ferro depositato dalle acque sotterranee molto dopo la crescita del quarzo stesso: un rivestimento superficiale e non un colore chiuso dentro la pietra, ed è per questo che si arresta di netto sul bordo intagliato.
