Questo cristallo di Daocheng è terminato a entrambe le estremità, senza alcuna cicatrice di attacco, e un quarzo più piccolo lo afferra da sotto. Il suo interno è tutt'altro che vuoto: fiocchi di carbonio nero si disperdono nel corpo, e dove si diradano subentrano veli argentei — fratture risanate che diventano sottili specchi mentre il pezzo ruota.
Il quarzo cresciuto libero in una cavità rivestita d'argilla sviluppa facce tutt'intorno invece di radicarsi nella matrice, ed è per questo che il materiale cinese di questo stile viene paragonato agli originali dello Stato di New York. Le inclusioni scure sono materia carboniosa sigillata durante la crescita; i veli sono vecchie fratture che il cristallo ha riparato da sé, ed entrambi sono l'opposto di un difetto — sono il resoconto di come è cresciuto. La durezza 7 Mohs ne fa una delle poche specie di una vetrina che si possano maneggiare senza ansia.
