Due punte di quarzo lattiginoso si elevano da una bassa crosta di cristalli più piccoli; la più alta è brinata quasi fino all'opacità lungo le facce del prisma, mentre la terminazione si schiarisce quel tanto che basta per catturare un riflesso. Lungo il fianco sinistro un gruppo compatto di pirite sta seminterrato nel quarzo, con facce metalliche a gradini che contro tutto quel bianco appaiono quasi nere. Una frangia di sottili punte secondarie corre attorno alla base e lungo un lato.
L'aspetto lattiginoso del quarzo non è un difetto ma un censimento: innumerevoli inclusioni microscopiche di fluidi e gas intrappolate durante una crescita rapida, che disperdono la luce prima che possa attraversarlo. Con durezza 7 Mohs, il SiO2 è l'unico minerale qui presente che si possa maneggiare senza ansia; è la pirite a richiedere attenzione, dato che i solfuri hanno molto più da ridire sull'aria umida che sulle dita. Tenga il pezzo all'asciutto e conserverà la sua superficie metallica.
