Bianco da parte a parte e lobato come un cavolfiore: questo pezzo di Dali è un compatto cumulo di rosette di idrozincite, ogni rigonfiamento rifinito da una crosta granulare dal grano così fine da sembrare brina più che cristallo. La luce che lo percorre risponde con uno scintillio morbido e diffuso invece che con un lampo speculare, e nelle valli fra i lobi si annidano granuli vitrei più grandi, appena azzurrini dove la luce li attraversa del tutto.
L'idrozincite, Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6, è un carbonato di zinco secondario, che si forma dove l'acqua circolante aggredisce il minerale di zinco primario in prossimità della superficie: ecco perché si presenta in croste tenere anziché in cristalli liberi. È un minerale affidabile sotto ultravioletto e risponde comunemente alla luce a onde corte con un bagliore azzurro pallido. L'etichetta propone la celestina come possibile associato; non essendo confermata, la segnaliamo invece di affermarla. Con durezza 2–2,5 Mohs è tenera: solo pennello asciutto, niente acidi.
