Il miele scorre lungo gli spigoli superiori di questa calcite di Daye e sfuma nel fumo scendendo lungo il cristallo. Il corpo è un unico romboedro massiccio, tanto trasparente da lasciar leggere l'ombra di un polpastrello, con un'ampia faccia superiore finemente incisa da un reticolo di linee di crescita. Uno spigolo anteriore è venuto luminoso e vitreo: una stretta smussatura naturale, senza alcun intervento di taglio, che percorre tutta la larghezza del cristallo.
Il distretto di Daye, nell'Hubei, è terra di ferro e rame, e le sue calciti escono spesso proprio così: toni caldi di tinta ferrosa su cristallo trasparente, geometria netta e una superficie che conserva nelle striature il resoconto della propria crescita. Chimicamente è CaCO3, trigonale, 3 Mohs. La sfaldatura romboedrica corre parallela a quegli spigoli luminosi, perciò un colpo nel punto sbagliato asporta una fetta anziché una scheggia.
