Diciotto centimetri di punte di quarzo dorato si aprono a ventaglio da una cresta comune, così che l'intera placca si legga come una sola lunga fila di lance. Il colore è un caldo arancio mango, più intenso dove i cristalli si affollano e più chiaro verso le punte, e il materiale è traslucido quanto basta perché la luce percorra qualche millimetro dentro un cristallo prima di disperdersi. Le terminazioni lungo il bordo superiore sono nette e ben distinte l'una dall'altra.
Il quarzo (SiO2) è incolore allo stato puro; la tonalità calda venduta come quarzo mango si attribuisce di norma a fini inclusioni di ossidi di ferro assorbite durante la crescita, che tingono il cristallo dall'interno anziché depositarsi in superficie. Con durezza 7 Mohs il materiale in sé è resistente: su una placca come questa la parte fragile è la selva di punte sottili, non il quarzo.
Con i suoi 18,2 × 7,4 × 6,7 cm e 362 g, dà il meglio adagiata sul lato lungo con la cresta rivolta verso l'alto; il supporto non è compreso. Tutto ciò che appare nelle fotografie qui sopra è questa unica placca.
