I cubi di questo esemplare della Mongolia Interna sono di un viola così fitto da spingersi ben oltre il velluto, tanto da apparire neri finché la luce non li attraversa da dietro: allora gli spigoli si accendono di violetto e l'interno rivela un fantasma squadrato dopo l'altro. Attorno e sotto di essi si stende una crosta di sfere giallo-oliva pallido, opache e botrioidali, che spinge in avanti la fluorite scura.
I fantasmi si formano quando la crescita si arresta abbastanza a lungo perché una pellicola di un altro minerale, o semplicemente un cambiamento del fluido, si depositi sulle facce del cristallo prima che la crescita riprenda; il profilo del cubo più piccolo e più antico resta sigillato dentro quello maggiore. La saturazione quasi nera nasce da centri di colore nel reticolo di CaF2. La fluorite ha durezza 4 Mohs e sfaldatura ottaedrica perfetta: la maneggi dalla matrice e non dagli angoli.
