Protuberanze bianco gesso si accalcano verso l'alto da questo pezzo della Valle di Parvati come un banco di corallo fossile, ogni lobo arrotondato, opaco, all'occhio lievemente zuccherino. Dove il rivestimento si assottiglia traspare da sotto un grigio-verde chiaro, e alcune piccole lame incolori siedono negli avvallamenti in ombra tra le torri. Qui nulla è vetroso: l'intera superficie porta il morbido aspetto incipriato della brina su un telaio di finestra.
Il quarzo botrioidale si costruisce così quando un fluido ricco di silice riveste una superficie con strato su strato di cristalli microscopici invece di far crescere una manciata di individui grandi. La finitura opaca è geometria, non alterazione — migliaia di minute terminazioni che disperdono la luce in ogni direzione tutte insieme. Il quarzo è SiO2 con durezza 7 Mohs e non chiede nulla oltre a un pennello morbido. Il materiale con questo abito proviene dalle alte valli alpine dell'Himachal Pradesh, nell'Himalaya occidentale.
