Ricavata da un geode e sagomata a cuore, questa celestina malgascia conserva la parete esterna come guscio lucidato grigio-azzurro chiaro e cede l’intera faccia aperta ai cristalli. Il maggiore siede appena fuori centro, un individuo tozzo azzurro acqua con terminazione piatta larga più o meno come l’unghia di un pollice, e decine di cristalli minori lo circondano, passando dall’incolore a un tenue fiordaliso.
La celestina è solfato di stronzio, SrSO4: rombica, 3-3,5 Mohs, tanto tenera che il bordo lucidato si graffia contro una pietra più dura e le facce dei cristalli non dovrebbero mai incontrare un panno sabbioso. La celestina malgascia cresce in cavità dentro rocce sedimentarie, e l’azzurro appartiene ai cristalli stessi, non a un trattamento. Un’esposizione prolungata al sole diretto può sbiadirlo, quindi le riservi un ripiano in ombra.
Misura 15,2 × 7,6 × 10,2 cm e pesa 1.565 g, poco più di 1,5 kg, e riempie il palmo; è mostrata tenuta a mano su fondo grigio uniforme, senza supporto. Il cuore di queste fotografie è il cuore che riceverà.
