I cubi di questa placca di Xianghualing sono verde mare pallido e quasi trasparenti, e le loro facce sono terrazzate: piattaforme quadrate impilate l'una sull'altra, come se ogni faccia fosse stata costruita a strati anziché cresciuta piana. Nel cubo più grande un morbido nucleo violetto galleggia dentro il verde, inchiostro trattenuto nel ghiaccio. Cristalli di quarzo incolore e cavità tinte di ocra completano una placca lunga all'incirca quanto una mano aperta.
Facce a gradini di questo tipo si formano quando la crescita supera l'apporto di materiale ai margini del cristallo, lasciando ogni nuovo strato un poco più corto di quello sottostante. Il nucleo violetto è una generazione precedente di fluorite che la crescita successiva, più verde, ha semplicemente inglobato: un fantasma, leggibile solo perché il guscio esterno è rimasto limpido. La fluorite ha durezza 4 Mohs e si sfalda secondo l'ottaedro, quindi la tenga distante dagli esemplari più duri sullo scaffale.
