Jiangxi red hematoid quartz with chalcopyrite at 5.3 cm and 37 g; a small cabinet piece with metallic accents. Keep dry. A tall wedge of quartz coated in a red-brown iron skin, the red hematoid quartz the supplier names, with brassy chalcopyrite crystals set along its face and clear quartz points at the edges.
Hematoid quartz is coloured by hematite inclusions, giving it a warm red-to-orange body colour that intensifies in strong light.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle. Chalcopyrite has a deeper gold colour and softer lustre than pyrite and often tarnishes to peacock hues.
Jiangxi's tungsten mines, Xihuashan and Piaotang among them, are the classic source of wolframite, scheelite, baryte, fluorite and calcite specimens.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 5.3 × 3.3 × 2.2 cm (2.09 × 1.30 × 0.87 in) and 37 g (1.3 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
