La brina è l'equivalente quotidiano più vicino: una pelle continua di minuti cristalli di quarzo è cresciuta su ogni faccia di questa fluorite, addolcendo gli spigoli del cubo in una sagoma arrotondata, come compattata dalla neve. Guardi attraverso la crosta e vedrà che il corpo sottostante è in gran parte limpido come acqua: tinto di grigio-lilla nella metà superiore, riscaldato in un tenue verde sedano lungo il fianco destro, con qualche debole fantasma albicocca imprigionato più in profondità.
È l'aspetto zuccherino per cui il Fujian è noto, e registra due eventi anziché uno: prima cristallizza la fluorite, poi un fluido successivo, più freddo e ricco di silice, semina quarzo sull'intera superficie ormai formata. Il guscio di quarzo ha durezza 7 Mohs e fa un vero favore alla fluorite (durezza 4) corazzandola, ma la sfaldatura sottostante resta invariata. Non tenti mai di rimuovere la brina strofinando e non sottoponga mai un pezzo simile a una vasca a ultrasuoni.
