Il turchese è un registro insolito per la fluorite, e questo cristallo di Yaogangxian lo porta da parte a parte: un blu-verde pulito che sbiadisce sugli spigoli sottili e si raccoglie più intenso nel nucleo. Le facce non sono piatte. Ognuna sale in basse terrazze, centinaia di minuscoli spigoli cubici accatastati mezzo gradino dietro quello sottostante, così che la superficie restituisce la luce in fini linee parallele anziché in un unico lampo speculare.
Quella terrazzatura è il modo in cui la fluorite cresce quando il fluido nutriente scorre veloce: nuovi strati partono dagli spigoli e si estendono verso l'interno prima che una faccia possa chiudersi, lasciando un resoconto gradinato di ogni impulso. La fluorite (CaF2) ha durezza Mohs 4 e sfaldatura ottaedrica perfetta, quindi un urto su uno spigolo solleva una scaglia anziché smussarlo. La conservi dove nulla di più duro possa rotolarle contro.
