Over dit exemplaar
De snijder bewerkte maar de helft van deze geode. De ene zijde is een schedel: voorhoofd, jukbeen, oogkas en een rij vierkante tanden gesneden in doorschijnend grijswit kwarts. De andere is precies gelaten zoals het gesteente brak en toont de geodewand in banden: een dunne groene malachietlijn, een crèmekleurige rand en een zandbruin binnenste. Portret en dwarsdoorsnede raken elkaar langs één rafelige naad.
Kwarts (SiO2) is Mohs 7, hard genoeg om de scherp ingesneden tanden en diepe kassen vast te houden die u hier ziet, en hard genoeg dat het afgewerkte snijwerk krassen afschudt die een zachtere steen dof zouden maken. De groene bandering is malachiet, een kopercarbonaat dat ontstaat waar koperrijke oplossingen door holtes van dit type trekken en ze van de wand naar binnen bekleden.
Dit exemplaar meet 12,7 × 7,6 × 9,1 cm en weegt 390 g. Het gefotografeerde snijwerk is het stuk dat u ontvangt; het staat zelfstandig op zijn vlakke basis, zonder hulpstuk.
