Satijn, geen glas. Elk vlak van deze lila fluoriet is geëtst tot een zachte matte afwerking die het licht verstrooit in plaats van weerkaatst, waardoor het kristal iets krijgt van matgeslepen zeeglas dat tegen een raam wordt gehouden. Brede driehoekige vlakken komen samen langs strakke ribben, een blekere, vrijwel kleurloze band kruist het onderlichaam, en een dunne donkerpaarse lijn markeert het oude contact waar het kristal tegen de wand van zijn holte rustte.
De matte huid is geen beschadiging. Late zure vloeistoffen in de holtes van Fujian gingen aan het werk toen het kristal al klaar was met groeien, namen vlak voor vlak materiaal weg en lieten het microscopisch geputte oppervlak achter dat mineralogen oplossingsetsing noemen. Fluoriet splijt perfect volgens de octaëder, wat ook betekent dat een tik tegen een hoek meteen een schilfer op gang brengt – ga voorzichtig om met de ribben.
Compact met 3,8 × 3,0 × 2,8 cm en 40 g, gefotografeerd rustend op witte kit op een kleine doorzichtige acrylkubus zodat de vorm van alle kanten te zien is. Het kristal waar u naar kijkt is het kristal dat aankomt.
