Over dit exemplaar
Een witte calcietspits klimt in gestapelde, uitwaaierende verdiepingen van dit kleine stuk uit Yaogangxian omhoog en versmalt over een tiental afgezette etages tot een stompe punt – de vorm die verzamelaars pagodecalciet noemen, en dit is er een schoolvoorbeeld van. Daaronder vormen rookachtig lila fluorietkubussen het lichaam van het specimen, met vlakke witte calcietplaten die als bloembladen zijwaarts uitwaaieren.
De etagebouw komt doordat calciet met tussenpozen groeit: elke nieuwe laag spreidt zich iets breder uit dan de vorige voordat de aanvoer van carbonaat stokt en de volgende begint. Calciet (CaCO3) is hardheid 3 op de schaal van Mohs met volmaakte rhomboëdrische splijting en het reageert zelfs op verdund zuur; het fluoriet (CaF2) eronder is hardheid 4. Houd het stuk weg bij ultrasone reinigers en bij huishoudelijke schoonmaakvloeistoffen van welke aard dan ook.
Compact met 3,8 × 3,0 × 3,3 cm en 30 g, met kneedlijm gezet op het afgebeelde doorzichtige acrylblok, dat meereist. Deze opnamen tonen het specimen zelf, met de spits ongeschonden.
