Over dit exemplaar
Olijfgroene epidoot zit in deze kwartswaaier als mos gevangen onder ijs: kleine prismatische kristallen ingeklemd tussen de punten langs de linkerflank, terwijl warme okerkleurige ijzerverkleuring dieper naar binnen samenvloeit, sommige toppen vertroebelt en andere waterhelder laat.
Tuinkwarts, lodoliet met zijn handelsnaam, is gewoon kwarts dat opgroeide naast alles wat de holte verder te bieden had: chloriet, klei, ijzeroxiden en hier epidoot, een calcium-aluminium-ijzersilicaat waarvan het pistachegroen met weinig anders te verwarren valt. Het ijzer is het deel dat werkelijk ingesloten zit: het vloeit samen op vaste dieptes en wordt bij het draaien van het stuk beurtelings scherp en vaag, terwijl de epidoot tussen de prisma’s geklemd zit in plaats van erin begraven. Kwarts op Mohs 7 laat zich goed hanteren; de enige echte kwetsbaarheid zit in de naaldfijne toppen.
5,6 × 3,6 × 1,8 cm en 40 g, met kit op een heldere acrylkubus gezet. Niets hier is een plaatsvervanger: de foto’s tonen deze cluster op die kubus.
