Over dit exemplaar
Kijk in dit kristal in plaats van ernaar. Onder een ijsbleek lavendelkleurig oppervlak hangen slierten witte veerachtige insluitsels in het inwendige als sneeuw die halverwege de val stilstaat, en daarachter lopen banden van diep violet die de vierkante omtrek volgen van de kleinere kubus die het kristal ooit was. De buitenvlakken klimmen in evenwijdige terrassen, glasachtig waar ze schoon zijn en crèmekleurig berijpt waar langs de bovenrand nog wat matrix vastzit.
Fantomen ontstaan wanneer de groei stilvalt. Een vliesje van een ander mineraal slaat neer op de kristalvlakken, de groei hervat en sluit het in, en het oude oppervlak overleeft als een spookomtrek binnen het voltooide kristal: een momentopname van de chemie in de holte. De violette zones tussen die spookvlakken zijn kleurcentra in het CaF2-rooster. Hardheid 4 met perfecte splijting in vier richtingen, dus pak het nooit stevig bij de hoeken vast.
Met 4,6 × 3,0 × 2,5 cm bij 35 g wordt het kristal getoond in een geribbelde witte houder op een helder acrylblok. De steen op elke opname is de steen die voor u wordt ingepakt.
