一丛带粉红晕的重晶石晶刃自深色而闪亮的母岩上升起，每一片板状晶体斜倚着下一片，像被侧推散开的一副纸牌。 粉色柔和均匀，在刃尖与透光的薄边处转暖成奶油色。 右侧另有一丛较小的扇形晶体以更低的角度张开，半埋在粒状的岩基之中。
位于 Oumjrane 矿区的 Bou Nahas，正以这种生长在富硫化物岩石上的刃状重晶石闻名，而底下深色的岩基，正是让浅色晶体隔着半个房间仍旧醒目的原因。 重晶石（BaSO4）莫氏硬度仅 3 至 3.5，却沉得出奇，比重接近 4.5——这一特性正是旧时矿工称它为「重晶石」的由来。 薄刃的边缘容易崩损，取拿时请握住母岩。
