粉蓝色，而且是矿物陈列柜里不常出现的颜色：一个由细密直立蓝色晶体组成的圆拱半球覆盖了这件云南微型标本的大部分正面，表面呈天鹅绒质感，晶尖突破轮廓处微显绒毛。 其下与其后的母岩呈灰白色葡萄状，左肩结着一道黑色氧化物壳，还有一抹淡蓝晕染渗入浅色的岩石之中。
方钠石通常以块状蓝色岩石的面貌现身，被锯成板材或滚磨成珠子，因此一件蓝色以放射状纤维质地的结晶花结呈现的标本，完全是另一回事。 粉白的表面很容易沾上手指油脂，之后也不易清除——请握住灰色母岩拿取，并让它远离潮湿。
此微型标本尺寸 3.0 × 2.4 × 3.7 cm，重 33 g，以黏土胶座落在照片中的透明压克力方块上，而那些照片正是拍自这一件。
