将它举向窗前，幽灵便会现身：每一颗淡紫色立方体之内都端坐着一个色调更深的紫罗兰色方块，那是一枚在生长中途被冻结、随后被更清透的萤石掩埋的较小晶体。 整组标本由十余颗立方体以阶梯方式堆叠而成，棱线锋利，晶面平整而具玻璃光泽，每一层止步于前一层之处都留下一道浅浅的阶地。
幻影记录的是造就晶体的那股水发生的一次改变——一段色心更为丰富的脉动，随后又回到近乎无色的生长。 湖南郴州的瑶岗仙产出各种紫色调的此类晶体，而正是像这样色浅、透明度更高的材料，才真正展现出内部的几何结构，而非将它藏起。 萤石是 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，在四个八面体方向上皆具完全解理：比起灰尘，它更在意碰撞与骤然的温度变化。
