阶梯状的祖母绿色立方体在这件马达加斯加标本的正面彼此攀爬而上，靠近核心处更绿，在光线能穿透的薄边处则较淡。 晶面平整但不具玻璃光泽——绿色之上覆着一层淡淡的缎面雾气——较大的晶体内部还飘着深色的矿物阴影。 晶群后方，母岩断得干净，呈奶白色。
这种立方体叠立方体的堆叠，发生在生长于既有晶面上重新启动之时：每一枚新的立方体都比前一枚略微错开成核，晶群顶部的阶梯轮廓就是它的纪录。 萤石是 CaF2，硬度 4，解理好到边缘容易磕出缺口，一旦磕出又十分显眼，所以这是一件放好之后就别再动它的标本。
它的尺寸为 10.9 × 5.1 × 7.9 cm，重 495 g，够沉，足以在晶面朝前倾斜时稳稳坐定；不随附展示架。 本页上的每一张影像，都出自这唯一的一件标本。
