一块薄板，厚仅 1.3 cm，由边到边铺满萤石晶体，颜色自橄榄绿经烟灰过渡到角落的紫。 没有一个晶面是平滑的：每一颗晶体都以阶梯方式堆叠而成，较新的生长层内显露出更早的幻影轮廓。 白色微晶点缀着缝隙，靠近上方还有一颗具光泽的黑色晶体破出表面。
幻影是名副其实的快照——一个曾经停滞的生长面，积聚了一层杂质薄膜，随后被新的萤石掩埋——因此每一颗晶体内的鬼影，正是它早年所保有的轮廓。 内蒙古萤石为人搜藏的，正是这种绿紫相间的层理。 萤石为 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，具完全八面体解理；角上一记碰撞就会剥下一片三角形薄片，因此请放在不会有东西滚过来撞到的架位。
这块板 7.6 × 1.3 × 6.6 cm、120 g——以其面积而言相当轻，最好直立摆放，让光线斜掠过那些阶梯。 照片所示即为寄达时的模样。
