把这颗瑶岗仙晶体举向光源，颜色便由内而外翻转过来：每一道棱线与每一个角都是柔和的薰衣草紫，中央则聚着一泓冷调的蓝绿，通过半透明的晶面发亮，像冰层底下望见的水。 顶部有一道阶梯状的脊斜向横过，那是双晶两半相接之处，每一级台阶都是一次暂停的生长面；内部淡淡的界面，则标出更早的晶面曾经所在的位置。
这样的色带是一份化学纪录。 萤石，CaF2，其致色中心取决于某一层生长时恰好流经的溶液，因此矿脉中的一次变化，便冻结成晶体里的一次色调转折。 摩氏硬度 4，加上完全的八面体解理，意味着最脆弱的部位就是那些角——请托住侧面，别捏着尖端。
