这件标本全靠一颗立方体撑起场面。 它的棱长约 2.5 cm，通体呈淡淡的半透明薰衣草紫，并沿着每一道棱线加深为瘀伤般的紫罗兰色；通过宽阔的正面晶面，可以读出一枚更早、更小的立方体悬浮于其内的幻影。 一列乳白色的白云石球体沿右侧而下，并在左上方再度聚集，那是整件标本仅有的母岩。
幻影记录的是一次停顿。 萤石（CaF2）生长、着色，随后在一层杂质薄膜沉降于晶面之际停滞下来；待生长恢复，那道轮廓便被封存于成形的晶体之内。 湖南瑶岗仙产出的这类立方体透明到足以一眼望穿，这正是内部几何得以清晰可读的原因。 莫氏硬度 4 又具完全的八面体解理，萤石比起碰撞，更乐于被轻轻托起。
晶体量得 2.5 × 2.5 × 2.0 cm，重 20 g——一件内涵丰富的指甲盖级标本。 拍摄时手持于一只压克力展示盒上方；这些图片所示的正是这一颗晶体，别无他者。
