迎向窗光，这枚晶体便成了建筑：片状、楔状与细密的内部缝隙层层堆叠，贯穿一个基部乳白、向上逐渐澄澈的晶体，直到宽阔的晶尖几乎纯净如玻璃。 奶油色的粒状晶簇仍紧附左侧翼，并在右下方再度以楔形出现；侧面另有一枚较小的晶锥挤入，那是两枚晶体相互顶着生长之处。
骸晶石英之名正来自这种层叠、阶梯般的生长——晶体先行长成，随流体变化被部分再溶蚀，而后又在自己被蚀刻的晶面上重新长起。 内部那些淡色的纱幕，就是这些中断所留下的愈合缝。 石英为 SiO2，莫氏硬度 7，足以无视灰尘与把玩；本标本唯一脆弱之处，是边缘那层粉质的晶簇薄壳。
