锈上凝霜：发丝般纤细的石膏针晶自深巧克力褐色的结壳上丛生而出，聚成两簇密实的绒球，其间另有一片较松散的针丛漫溢。 针晶受光处无色而具玻璃光泽，平贴母岩之处则泛出温暖的琥珀色调，整个表面只需轻轻一倾便闪烁生辉。
石膏（CaSO4·2H2O）是收藏者所能拥有的最软矿物之一——莫氏硬度 2，指甲即可留痕——而这样的针状晶丛是它最脆弱的表现形式。 它们生长于开放的孔洞中，细如水丝的晶体自共同的起点放射，直到触及岩壁。 请保持干燥，石膏微溶于水；除尘请以吹气或极软的毛刷，切勿用布擦拭，那会一次折断数十根针晶。
