幻影记录的是一次中断。 萤石先行生长，供养它的流体改变了——不同的微量元素、不同的温度——生长随后在较淡的化学环境中重新开始，把先前的晶体形状冻结在较新的晶体之内。 以如此玻璃般的外观而言，萤石算是柔软，莫氏硬度 4，八面体解理完全，一旦碰撞便会干净俐落地带走一个晶角；存放时请让它远离更硬的邻居。
