两枚麦秆金色的方解石晶体坐落在一块长条的赭色母岩板上，各自压扁成藏家一眼认得的蝴蝶双晶楔形。 下方较大的那枚边缘玻璃般清透，晶心被锈色的铁染弄得混浊；上方的一枚较小、较洁净，倾斜的方向相反，两者因此在岩板上取得平衡。
这类双晶生成于两个方解石个体共用一个晶格面、彼此以镜像方式生长之时，扁平如翼的轮廓正由此而来。 湖南的碳酸盐岩容矿体更以硫化物闻名，能够带着完好无损的方解石出土的母岩板，值得留在手上——莫氏硬度 3，一记方向不对的碰撞，就会把晶体干净俐落地劈成两半。
岩板长 15.7 × 7.1 × 3.3 cm，重 240 g，背面够平，可以直立倚在层架上。 不附底座；照片记录的正是这一块岩板，别无其他。
