立方体之中还有立方体的鬼影——这件直立的瑶岗仙拇指标本，故事全在于此。 紫色萤石长成紧密的贯穿双晶集合，每一颗晶体都带着幻影：早期生长留下的方形轮廓悬在玻璃般的晶体之中，像梯田一样层层向内。 颜色自底部的淡丁香紫，一路加深到右上方浓郁的葡萄紫，中央有一个晶面敞开成石板蓝色的窗。
幻影的形成，是生长停顿得够久，让一层杂质薄膜沉落在晶面上，之后生长恢复，把那个表面封进晶体内部。 萤石把这种中断记录得格外清楚，因为鬼影保留了母晶平直晶面的几何形状。 萤石成分为 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面体解理——请与较硬的标本分开存放。
标本尺寸 5.8 × 3.6 × 2.0 cm，重 50 g，以可移除黏土固定在照片中的透明压克力座上。 该座台随件附上，照片里的石头就是寄出的石头。
