أمونيت واحدة قُطعت وصُقلت إلى نصفين متطابقين من ماهاجانغا، مدغشقر. كل حجرة فيها جيود مصغّرة قائمة بذاتها – بعضها مبطّن بكالسيت بلون العسل الذهبي، وبعضها مفروش برواسب حمراء صدئة – داخل جدران تحوّلت إلى عقيق بلونَي الكراميل والقشدة. 11.9 × 3.6 × 13.7 سم، 471 غم.

أمونيت واحدة، مفتوحة كالكتاب: هذا الزوج المتطابق من النصفين المقطوعين والمصقولين من ماهاجانغا، مدغشقر، يحوّل صدفة من العصر الطباشيري إلى لوحتَي عرض متقابلتين كالمرآة. وكل حجرة بناها الحيوان صارت اليوم جيود مصغّرة قائمة بذاتها – بعضها مبطّن ببلورات كالسيت بلون العسل الذهبي، وبعضها مفروش برواسب حمراء صدئة – محاطة بجدران تحوّلت إلى عقيق يُصقل إلى لونَي الكراميل والقشدة.
تبقى اللفّات الداخلية للحلزون واضحة المعالم في مركز كل نصف، فيُقرأ الزوج بوصفه تاريخًا طبيعيًا – معمار رخوي عمره 100 مليون سنة في مقطع عرضي – وبوصفه في الوقت ذاته طقمًا متطابقًا جاهزًا لرفّ أو مكتب.
