Jiangxi red hematoid quartz with chalcopyrite and dolomite at 18 × 10 × 22 cm and 2630 g including the stand; a large cabinet display piece. A tall plate of red-skinned quartz points with a band of brassy chalcopyrite across its centre and white dolomite beneath, mounted on a carved wooden stand.
Hematoid quartz is coloured by hematite inclusions, giving it a warm red-to-orange body colour that intensifies in strong light.
Chalcopyrite is the main ore of copper, forming brassy tetrahedral crystals that tarnish to iridescent blues and purples. Dolomite's slightly curved rhombohedral faces separate it at a glance from calcite.
Jiangxi is China's tungsten province; its mines have yielded wolframite, scheelite and fluorite specimens of world standard for decades.
The piece is large cabinet in size, 18 × 10 × 22 cm (7.09 × 3.94 × 8.66 in) and 2630 g (92.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
