Step, offset, step: transparent fluorite cubes climb this Beijing cluster corner over corner, straw-pale at the rims and deepening to warm honey where two or three overlap, each face bright enough to mirror the light and clear enough to show the cube behind it. Faint mineral wisps and rusty films are trapped along several internal growth planes, and the whole group sits on a rough iron-brown matrix studded with smaller crystals of the same gold.
Nothing here is glass-clean: pale growth clouds sit in the cores of several cubes and a number of edges are stepped or nicked where crystals grew into one another. Fluorite is CaF2, cubic, Mohs 4, and its perfect octahedral cleavage means a knock on a corner takes a clean triangular flake rather than a chip. Some fluorite fluoresces under UV and some does not; this one is worth testing rather than assuming.
Overall 5.8 × 5.6 × 3.5 cm at 109 g, with a flat matrix underside that sits on a shelf unaided. Photographed as it is: the cluster you see is the cluster you receive.
