Ein Kristall, keine Matrix. Dieser pakistanische Aquamarin ist beinahe wasserklar und hält nur einen zarten Blaustich, der sich im dickeren Teil des Steins zeigt und zu den gerundeten, leicht gerieften Flächen am Rand hin verliert. Blasse Schleier ziehen durch das Innere wie Rauch, der sich nie gelegt hat.
Aquamarin ist die blaue Varietät des Berylls, Be3Al2Si6O18, gefärbt durch Eisen auf den Kanalplätzen seines hexagonalen Gerüsts – weniger Eisen, blasserer Stein: genau diesen Preis zahlt ein derart transparentes Stück für seine Klarheit. Mit Mohs 7,5–8 ist Beryll hart genug, um lose in der Vitrine zu liegen, ohne von den Nachbarn Kratzer davonzutragen.
Der Kristall misst 3,3 cm × 3,3 cm × 3,3 cm und wiegt 30 g. Gezeigt wird er auf weißer Knete auf einem klaren Acrylblock aufgestützt; der Kristall in jeder Aufnahme ist genau jener, der in Ihre Sendung geht.
