Über diese Stufe
Ein Fächer zartrosa Barytblätter erhebt sich aus dunkler, funkelnder Matrix, jede tafelige Platte an die nächste gelegt wie seitlich aus einem Stapel geschobene Spielkarten. Das Rosa ist weich und gleichmäßig und wärmt sich an den Blattspitzen und den dünnen, lichtdurchlässigen Kanten ins Cremefarbene auf. Rechts öffnet sich ein zweiter, kleinerer Fächer in flacherem Winkel, halb im körnigen Untergrund vergraben.
Bou Nahas im Distrikt Oumjrane ist für Baryt in genau dieser blättrigen Tracht auf sulfidreichem Gestein bekannt, und der dunkle Untergrund ist es, der die blassen Kristalle schon quer durch den Raum zur Geltung bringt. Baryt (BaSO4) ist mit Mohs 3 bis 3,5 weich und dennoch verblüffend schwer für sein Volumen, mit einer Dichte um 4,5 – jene Eigenschaft, die ihm den alten Bergmannsnamen Schwerspat eintrug. Dünne Blätter splittern an der Kante; heben Sie die Stufe deshalb an der Matrix an.
Die Stufe misst 4,8 × 5,1 × 3,6 cm und wiegt 91 g; auf dem Foto wird sie zum Größenvergleich zwischen Daumen und Zeigefinger gehalten. Ein Ständer gehört nicht dazu; diese Aufnahmen entstanden von diesem einen Fächer und von nichts anderem.
