Über diese Stufe
Ein gerundeter Laib aus wachsartig cremeweißem Calcit trägt eine Kappe aus silbrigem Glimmer: Dutzende kleiner Bücher und Splitter stehen hochkant und funkeln kalt gegen den weich matten Körper darunter, und dort, wo beide aufeinandertreffen, zeigt sich eine Naht aus dunklem grünschwarzem Material. Der Calcit selbst ist eine Masse kleiner stumpfer Kristalle, zu welligen Loben verwachsen – eher Kerzenwachs als Glas.
Xuebaoding im Kreis Pingwu, Sichuan, ist den meisten Sammlern als Fundort für Scheelit und Beryll auf Muskovit-Büchern vertraut; Calcit ist der stillere Begleiter, die späte kluftfüllende Phase, die einsetzt, sobald die auffälligeren Arten ausgewachsen sind. Beides auf einem so kleinen Stück beieinander zu haben, gibt einen fairen Eindruck davon, was in diesen Klüften tatsächlich steckt. Calcit ist CaCO3 mit Mohshärte 3, weicher als eine Kupfermünze, und seine drei Spaltrichtungen sorgen dafür, dass er eher ausbricht als zerkratzt – bewahren Sie ihn dort auf, wo nichts dagegenrollen kann.
