Fliederfarbene Kügelchen bedecken diesen indonesischen Trauben-Achat vom Fuß bis zur Spitze, Tausende davon, keines größer als ein Pfefferkorn. An der linken Flanke wechselt ein breiter Bereich ins Salbeigrün und Blaugrau, sodass sich der Keil als zwei Farben liest, die sich entlang einer weichen Diagonale treffen, während die rechte Seite blass malvenfarben und glänzend bleibt und das Licht wie mattiertes Glas aufnimmt.
Das Grün markiert einen Wechsel in der Lösung, die den Hohlraum füllte, und kein eigenes, obenauf gelegtes Mineral: Chalcedon nimmt eine schwache Färbung von den jeweils gelösten Spurenmetallen an, während jede neue Lage Kügelchen aufkeimt. Was Sie in der Hand halten, ist die Auskleidung einer Gasblase in vulkanischem Gestein, im Ganzen herausgelöst. Die Härte liegt bei 6,5–7, doch die kleinen Kugeln sitzen auf schmalen Stielen – halten Sie Ärmel und Staubtücher von der Oberfläche fern.
