Über diese Stufe
Der Fluorit hat hier die Oberfläche von mattem Seeglas: eine Kette blasser Celadon-Würfel, jede Fläche fein geätzt und matt statt spiegelblank, wie Trittsteine über die Stufe gelegt. Dahinter geht die Matrix ins Anthrazit über und ist mit einer feinen weiß-fliederfarbenen Druse bestäubt; erst diese dunkle Rückseite lässt das Grün überhaupt als Grün lesbar werden – auf hellem Gestein verschwände die halbe Wirkung.
Ätzungen dieser Art entstehen, wenn späte, leicht aggressive Lösungen erneut durch eine Kluft ziehen, nachdem die Kristalle fertig gewachsen sind: Sie nehmen den Würfelflächen den Glanz und runden die Kanten. Sammler sind darüber geteilter Meinung; was man dafür bekommt, ist Tiefe, denn eine matte Fläche streut das Licht in den ganzen Kristall hinein, statt es vorn abprallen zu lassen. Fluorit steht bei Mohs 4 und spaltet vollkommen nach dem Oktaeder, ein Stoß gegen eine freiliegende Kante ist die einzige echte Gefahr.
Die Stufe misst 5,6 × 2,5 × 4,1 cm und wiegt 80 g – bemessen, um ohne Sockel flach in der Vitrine zu liegen. Jedes Bild auf dieser Seite wurde von diesem Stück aufgenommen.
