Über diese Stufe
Durch und durch weiß und gelappt wie ein Blumenkohlkopf: Dieses Stück aus Dali ist ein dichter Buckel aus Hydrozinkit-Rosetten, jede Wölbung von einer körnigen Kruste abgeschlossen, so feinkörnig, dass sie eher nach Raureif als nach Kristall aussieht. Streift Licht darüber, antwortet es mit einem weichen, diffusen Funkeln statt mit einem Spiegelblitz, und in den Tälern zwischen den Lappen sitzen größere glasige Körner, schwach blau dort, wo das Licht ganz hindurchgeht.
Hydrozinkit, Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6, ist ein sekundäres Zinkkarbonat und bildet sich dort, wo zirkulierendes Wasser oberflächennah primäres Zinkerz angreift – deshalb kommt es in weichen Krusten und nicht als freie Kristalle. Es ist ein verlässliches UV-Mineral und antwortet auf kurzwelliges Licht meist mit blassblauem Leuchten. Das Etikett nennt Coelestin als möglichen Begleiter; da er unbestätigt ist, weisen wir darauf hin, statt ihn zu behaupten. Mit Mohshärte 2 bis 2,5 ist das Mineral weich: nur ein trockener Pinsel, keine Säuren.
