Über diese Stufe
Cremeweißer Dolomit bedeckt den größten Teil dieses Stücks aus der Inneren Mongolei in dicht gerundeten Knollen, ein Bett aus Popcorn, mit rostbrauner Eisenfärbung, die sich in jede Falte dazwischen gesetzt hat. Das Interessante sitzt an einem Ende, wo die Kruste ausläuft: zwei pflaumenviolette Fluorit-Würfel, durchscheinend und scharf gekantet, unmittelbar in das dunkle grüngraue Wirtsgestein gesetzt, daneben kleine messingfarbene Pyritkörner, verstreut im dunkleren Grund.
Dolomit, CaMg(CO3)2, nimmt diese kugelige Form an, wenn er rasch auf eine Gesteinswand ausfällt, statt als freie Rhomboeder zu wachsen, und das Braun in den Mulden ist Eisenoxid, hinterlassen von späterem Grundwasser. Der Fluorit ist mit Mohshärte 4 der härtere der beiden gegenüber 3,5 beim Karbonat, wobei keiner von beiden einen Stoß verzeiht. Es ist der Farbverlauf, der das Stück trägt: warmes Creme gegen kaltes Violett gegen nahezu schwarzes Gestein, alles auf wenigen Zentimetern.
Die Stufe wiegt 50 g und liegt bequem in einer Hand, ohne Montierung und vor schlichtem grauem Grund aufgenommen. Das Stück in diesen Bildern ist das, was versandt wird.
