Über diese Stufe
Ein 18 Zentimeter langer Zug goldener Quarzspitzen fächert von einem gemeinsamen Grat nach außen auf, sodass die ganze Platte als ein einziger Kamm aus Speeren erscheint. Die Farbe ist ein warmes Mangoorange, am tiefsten dort, wo die Kristalle dicht beieinanderstehen, und blasser an den Spitzen; das Material ist so durchscheinend, dass Licht mehrere Millimeter weit in einen Kristall eindringt, bevor es sich streut. Die Endflächen entlang der Oberkante sind scharf und stehen frei voneinander.
Quarz (SiO2) ist in reiner Form farblos; der warme Ton, der als Mango-Quarz gehandelt wird, wird gemeinhin auf feine Eisenoxid-Einschlüsse zurückgeführt, die beim Wachstum aufgenommen wurden und den Kristall von innen heraus färben, statt auf der Oberfläche zu sitzen. Mit Mohs 7 ist das Material selbst widerstandsfähig – bei einer Platte wie dieser ist der empfindliche Teil der Wald schlanker Spitzen, nicht der Quarz.
Mit 18,2 × 7,4 × 6,7 cm und 362 g kommt die Platte am besten liegend auf der langen Kante mit dem Kamm nach oben zur Geltung; ein Ständer gehört nicht dazu. Alles auf den Fotos oben ist diese eine Platte.
